Cricket Update: Tamil Nadu wins the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021

Important cricket update, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the first domestic cricket tournament in India and probably one of the most important cricket online betting events this year has finally ended, Tamil Nadu hailed as the winner for this season.

After losing the title last year to Karnatak, Tamil Nadu has proved to be the strongest team this season after beating Baroda with seven wickets in the final and clinched the coveted trophy. The playoffs of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 happened last January 31 in Ahmedabad.

This year’s trophy is the second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph of Tamil Nadu. The team won their first crown way back in the 2006-07 cricket tournament. It is noteworthy that the team won both their titles with Dinesh Karthik as the captain.

The team of Baroda, on the other hand, won the title twice at Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the past. To recall, the team bagged the title in the 2011-12 and 2013-14 cricket game. While Baroda ended up as runners-up this season, the team fought through the end.

Lukman Meriwala (1/34), the Baroda’s top scorer, picked up the first wicket, with the opposition at 26/1 while Tamil Nadus opener Narayan Jagadeesan (14) lost early in the game.

However, Tamil Nadu was never under pressure. Chezhian Harinishanth (35; 3×4; 1×6) and Baba Aparajith (29 not out off 35 balls) show an impressive play to push their team 61/1 after 10 overs.

With the left-hander Babashafi Pathan’s excellent bowling, Baroda was able to shut Nishanth down in the 12th over.

Tamil Nadu’s skipper Dinesh Karthik also contributed greatly in-game with his 16-ball 22. Yet it was Aparajith and Shahrukh Khan Play who sealed the game with a boundary.

Manimaran Siddharth as the player of the match

Manimaran Siddharth shone in this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was awarded as the Man of the Match. His four-wicket performance was able to push their team to victory.

Siddharth’s brilliant owling allows Tamil Nadu to restrict Baroda to 120 for 9. Fans and analysts are impressed with the advantage by varying the pace of his deliveries and also using the crease well to create awkward angles for the batsmen.

“I just wanted to keep it simple for the team and it paid off. I’m glad it paid off. I’ve been working hard on my variations. My arm ball always gives me wickets and I just go with it.” Siddharth said in a media interview.

Siddharth, who had replaced Aswin Crist in the playing XI, picked up his first wicket in the second over.

Tamil Nadu’s Team Captain Karthik hoped that more from his team would reach higher levels much like T Natarajan and Washington Sundar, who have made it to team India.

“It really hurt us last year, we lost by a whisker. This year we had our sights on the knockouts and then we got consistent. It’s the sign of a good team. I think just the fact that there are players like Natarajan and Sundar in the Indian team, who were in this team last year, is the sign of a team doing well. I’m sure there are a few who’ll go on from this team as well.”

Karthik continued by thanking the support staff for their work behind the scene.

“I think our support staff has done a great job. The assistant coach Prasanna, he and I do all the strategy work. We have a very good working relationship. Over a period of time, we’ve understood how to take this team forward. I would like to thank the Gujarat Association, Jay Shah, Arun Dhumal for looking after us well.”

Baroda’s skipper Kedar Devdhar, who showed exemplary leadership in the whole tournament also congratulate Team Tamil Nadu for winning the title and his team for the great effort.

“I want to congratulate the TN team and also my team. Without our big players, we reached here. Win and loss is part of the game, we should be proud of this effort. The support staff and strength and conditioning guys, the assistant coach, the players, have all put in big efforts in the tournament. Once in a while you have days like this, it’s alright. We’ll take the positives from here,” Devdhar said in the media interview.
